Invisalign – How It Works

Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear, plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. By pressing against your teeth, the aligners push your teeth into the desired position.

The plastic aligners, or “trays,” are created after your dentist takes x-rays, photos and impressions of your teeth and your bite. The x-rays, photos and impressions are used to create a 3D image of your teeth, which your dentist will use to determine a plan for each step in the treatment. The computer technology lets your dentist create a highly customized plan for your specific needs.

You will continue to wear the aligners until your treatment has been completed. The time required for Invisalign treatment varies. Each patient is unique, and the number of aligners depends on the complexity of each patient’s case. Typically you will wear an aligner for two weeks before moving to the next one in the series.

Invisalign does not correct every patient’s issues. Some severe problems can only be corrected with the use of traditional metal braces. A dentist can determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.
